Biography
Keithlyn Steter Alves is a multidisciplinary artist from a Brazilian background, currently based in Florida. Raised within a religious framework that emphasized the body as a site of purity and discipline, her work reflects an ongoing negotiation with and departure from those values. Acts such as cutting her hair short, emerge not only as personal decisions, but as gestures of resistance. Rejecting ideals of preservation, modesty, and control that once shaped her understanding of the body.
Working across sculpture, installation, and material experimentation, Steter Alves’s practice explores themes of power, enforced beauty, and the tension between reverence and rebellion. Her work investigates how systems of belief embed themselves into physical form, questioning what it means to reclaim autonomy over one’s body in the aftermath of imposed identity.
